Geocaching

Yesterday was a perfect day, so Ben and I headed out to do some geocaching...

We looked for 5, and found 3 of them...with Ben working the GPSr much of the time...we drove all over the Northern Adirondacks in search of treasure...

The first geocache that we found was on the verge of this gorgeous pond...

We hadn't been geocaching in a while, but Ben fell right back into the habits of using the GPS, hunting for the geocache, and the thrill of victory...

The second geocache that we found was deep in the woods, and on the way out, we bushwhacked through what must be the most dense sapling forest in North America...in the pic above, you can see Ben emerging from the thickest part of the woods...just behind him is a section where the finger to wrist thick trees were 6 inches apart...

Next, we had 2 unsuccessful hunts, both in beautiful spots that we would likely never have visited otherwise...

On the drive to our last geocache of the day, we drove over a hill and came upon a windfarm...it was like a scene out of "war of the Worlds"...

We found the last geocache near a pretty river and in deep woods...

We got hot and sweaty during our explorations, one of the unsuccessful hunts lead us up the side of a mountain, so on the way home, we stopped off at Barnum Pond for a nice swim...we had a great time in this lovely pond until...

Ben got a leech on his foot...no, this isn't a picture of "Slippy " (Ben's name for the thing, although his was a little smaller than the one pictured above), but it'll give you an idea of what we're talking about...Ben was really cool about the leech on his ankle, and I was able to get it off without amputation...we went home, and Slippy went back in the pond...
