Labor Day Weekend and Beyond...

On Sunday, we met a friend of Ben's at the Petrova playground for a playdate...a good time was had by all...

They ran around like madmen for an hour and a half before we broke away for lunch at the Blue Moon...

After lunch we went geocaching in town, and found some monarch caterpillars, which Ben needs for school {homework!!!}, along the way...

Ben loved helping us find them, and harvesting the milkweed for them to eat...

We found the cache after a lovely walk down to the edge of Lake Colby, along a path we had never known existed...

On the way home, we stopped in at the Lake Colby Elementary School, which we heard, rightly, had a kickin' climbing wall...

Last night Ben and Mommy made brownies to bring into school today, lots of it made it into the pan...

Today Ben and I went after a really cool multi-cache in the woods near Saranac Lake with a pirate theme...we found the first stage, which gave us the coordinates to the final stage...but near the initial stage, we saw the coolest collection of truly brobdingnagian glacial erratics...for me, it was like a visit to Graceland...Ben had a great time too, exploring and climbing...

Here you can see Ben posing in front of a big cluster of the erratics...

The balanced rock up on top is about the size (and shape) of my Honda Element...

Ben loved climbing the big rocks, and I was only a little scared (I don't think it showed)...there were chalk marks all over some of the tougher faces from where older climbers practice their moves...my whole life in this area, and I've never heard of this rock field (and this is the kind of thing I listen for)...

He climbed up to the top of this huge one, finding tiny cracks for his fingers and using the edges of his shoes to get traction on the way up...he crab-walked his way down, and we went after the second stage of the pirate treasure geocache...

We love finding these big ones!!!

He chose a cool pirate sword...duh...and got a little Arthurian in the deep woods on our way out...we had a great time...Tomorrow is his 5th birthday, and the day after that, he will get on a school bus for the first time...
